Configuring and updating the wireless "mevo start" cameras
= Note on the available apps =
- mevo multicam app : the app to record multi-cam streams directly in the ipad, or to directly stream multi-cam to the web
- mevo app : test, firmware update, connect to another wifi network and setup for any camera
Any configuration is impossible to do from a computer. It requires a tablet/phone with the mevo app
= Access the camera =
- if your camera is new, it will create a local wifi hotspot. You can connect your phone/tablet to that hotspot to update, configure or access the camera
- if your camera is configured and automatically connects to a dedicated network / hotspot, you should get your tablet/phone and the camera on the same network to access it
- if it connects to a wifi network with internet access, just connect your tablet/phone to that same wifi network
- if it connects to a local wifi network with no internet access, connect the router with an ethernet cable to the web before connecting your tablet/phone to it (it’s the case in the Observation Lab with the Unifi router)
= Updating firmware and changing settings =
- connect the tablet/phone with the mevo app to a wifi network with internet access (or a local wifi hotspot that you wire to the web with an ethernet cable, as said in the previous section)
- launch mevo app, wait for the camera to be detected
- if a firmware update is available, you’ll see a button under the camera logo
- click “stream via wifi”, it will establish a bluetooth connection between the tablet/phone and the mevo
- from here you can configure the mevo camera to connect to the wifi network you want to use
- in video settings : 30fps, h264, 1080p, 15mbps for both recording and streaming — automatic backup recording on
- in audio settings : use internal mics and mix audio channels
- in app settings : 480p, put zoom to the minimum
- in mevo settings : mevo button should trigger “record to SD card” — system sound on — front brightness to 0.7 and back brightness to 1 — power external USB devices — disable auto
- in NDI settings : 1080p - 15mbps — enable HEVC — then activate NDI
Putting the NDI in HEVC mode is super important, since it reduces the used bandwith by 50% while maintaining the same level of quality.
